Category: Winter

Here in Illinois, we've just had another 3 inches of snow dumped on us last night, and there's more coming tonight.  Ah...winter!  The time I can't wait to come   in August and can't wait to end in February!

The seed catalogs are showing up and as I look through them I start getting antsy. Wanting to start seeds (too early) wanting to turn over compost (too frozen), wanting to do SOMETHING! lol  I have little notebooks and garden journals that I keep every year. This is the time to go through last years, see what worked and what didn't and start laying out the plantings on paper. Crop rotation is gospel at my house.

I'm new here.  This should be fun.  I plant in raised beds and ascribe to the Ruth Stout religion of gardening...composting, mulching and no till. I lasagna garden, I sing to my plants and I have a library of gardening books that would be the envy of Rodale. lol  I garden organically, I water as little as I can get away with, and I have no problem (for some reason unknown to my neighbors) with rabbits or deer getting into my garden. I tell them it's because I am one woth Nature, lol.

My newest favorite seed catalog is a work of art by  Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.  I am in love....
